Mission
On September 17, 1787, George Washington, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and the delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document whose first three words – “We the People” affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens.
We encourage all Americans to observe Constitution Day as one of the most important holidays in our nation's history. Since 2017, we have sponsored an annual celebration throughout Centre County. Past events included exhibits by local groups, inspiring speakers, and music. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we hosted videos and Zoom talks during 2020. Those videos are still available on our YouTube Channel today.
Our mission also promotes civility as the keystone of a successful democracy. Since 2022, our Constitution Day celebration hosts Democracy Roundtables. The goal is to bring together residents and visitors of all viewpoints to listen and share their viewpoints in order to find common ground.
We also honor local residents and nonprofits for their leadership in civility and community with the James Madison Award for Civility in the Community.
Constitution Day Centre Inc. funds this event through generous individual and corporate contributions. Please consider being a part of this patriotic event.
